Activated Filter Media AFM®

AFM (Activated Filter Media) by Dryden Aqua is a highly engineered, self-sterilizing filter media made from post-consumer green and brown glass. It is a direct replacement for silica sand, offering up to 1-micron filtration, a 15% lower density by weight, and a lifespan of up to 15 years.

• Composition: Amorphous aluminosilicate (derived from soda-lime-silica glass) with a purity >99.95%.

• Surface Properties: Features a permanently negative hydrophilic charge and catalytic properties that transform dissolved oxygen into free radicals, making it self-sterilizing and resistant to biofouling.

• Density: 1.2 g/cm³ (approx. 15% lighter than standard silica sand).

• Hardness: ~7 on the Mohs scale.

• pH Range Tolerance: Stable from pH 4 to pH 10.

Available Particle Sizes (Grades)

• Grade 0: 0.25 mm - 0.5 mm (Extra-fine filtration for pool polishing and pre-RO protection).
• Grade 1: 0.4 mm - 0.8 mm (Standard primary filtration for swimming pools and drinking water).
• Grade DIN: 0.7 mm - 1.2 mm (Specialized filtration for wastewater and rapid gravity filters).
• Grade 2: 0.7 mm - 2.0 mm (Primary filtration and coarse support layer).
• Grade 3: 2.0 mm - 4.0 mm (Coarse support layer at the bottom of the filter).

• Drinking Water: Certified by WQA to NSF/ANSI/CAN 50 and 61 & 372 for potable water.
• Standards: Complies with EN17978 and EU Directive 2020/2184 for water intended for human consumption.
